Living Green - Alternative Energy Resources
In the year 2008, alternative energy resources is no longer something that can be overlooked by our political leaders. Alternative Energy is the only way that we, as a free thinking and creative people, can survive the bureaucratic heavy handedness, that we have all been given with our current politicians. Living green simply means ridding yourself of all the worthless junk, thereby freeing your mind for creative and motivated living.
In the article below, I will go into alternative energy resources, and then, I will write an article about the answer to all the problems that this economy is facing. There is a man with a plan, T-Boone Pickens, that has found the answer, and is willing to go the extra mile to see that our politicians in Washington, pay attention to these suggestions.
Alternative energy is typically defined as coming from sources that do not deplete natural resources or harm . Wind power is a typical example. The term alternative is used to contrast with fossil fuels according to some sources. This Living Green principle goes hand in hand with Green Energy: Green energy is a term used to describe sources of energy that are considered to be environmentally friendly and non-polluting. These sources of energy may provide a remedy to the systemic effects of global warming and certain forms of pollution. Green energy is commonly thought of in the context of electricity, heating and cogeneration. Consumers, businesses and organizations may purchase green energy in order to support further development, help reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity generation and increase their nation’s energy independence. Renewable energy certificates (Green certificates or green tags) have been one way for consumers and businesses to support green energy. Over 35 million homes in Europe and 1 million in the United States are purchasing such certificates. Additionally, some governments have drafted specific definitions for green energy or similar terms which may be eligible for subsidies and support for related technologies.

Wind Power
Wind Power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. At the end of 2007, worldwide capacity of wind-powered generators was 94.1 gigawatts. Although wind produces about 1% of world-wide electricity use, it accounts for approximately 19% of electricity production in Denmark, 9% in Spain and Portugal, and 6% in Germany and the Republic of Ireland. Globally, wind power generation increased more than fivefold between 2000 and 2007.
The principle application of wind power is to generate electricity. Large scale wind farms are connected to electrical grids. Individual turbines can provide electricity to isolated locations. In the case of windmills, wind energy is used directly as mechanical energy for pumping water or grinding grain.
Wind energy is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it displaces fossil-fuel-derived electricity. Therefore, it is considered by experts to be more environmentally friendly than many other energy sources. The intermittency of wind seldom creates problems when using wind power to supply a low proportion of total demand. Where wind is to be used for a moderate fraction of demand, additional costs for compensation of intermittency are considered to be modest.
Solar Power
Solar energy is the light and radiant heat from the Sun that influences Earth's climate and weather and sustains life. Solar power, often used as a synonym, is the rate of solar energy at a point in time. Since ancient times it has been harnessed for human use through a range of technologies. Solar radiation along with secondary solar resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass account for over 99.97% of the available flow of renewable energy on Earth.
Solar energy technologies can provide daylighting and thermal comfort in passive buildings, potable water via distillation and disinfection, hot water and space heating, space cooling by absorption or vapor-compression refrigeration, thermal energy for cooking, high temperature process heat for industrial purposes, and electrical generation by thermal or photovoltaic means.
CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a fossil fuel substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel. Although its combustion does produce greenhouse gases, it is a more environmentally clean alternative to those fuels, and it is much safer than other fuels in the event of a spill (natural gas is lighter than air, but disperses quickly when released).
CNG is made by compressing natural gas (which is mainly composed of methane [CH4]), to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. It is stored and distributed in hard containers, at a normal pressure of 200â€"220 bar (2900â€"3200 psi), usually in cylindrical or spherical shapes.
CNG is used in traditional gasoline internal combustion engine cars that have been converted into bi-fuel vehicles (gasoline/CNG). Natural gas vehicles are increasingly used in Europe and South America due to rising gasoline prices.
In response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns, CNG is starting to be used also in light-duty passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, medium-duty delivery trucks, transit and school buses, and trains.
CNG's energy density is 42% lower than LNG (because it is not liquefied), and 25% lower than diesel.
Nuclear Energy
Nuclear power is any nuclear technology designed to extract usable energy from atomic nuclei via controlled nuclear reactions. The most common method today is through nuclear fission, though other methods include nuclear fusion and radioactive decay. All utility-scale reactors heat water to produce steam, which is then converted into mechanical work for the purpose of generating electricity or propulsion. Today, more than 15% of the world's electricity comes from nuclear power, more than 150 nuclear-powered naval vessels have been built, and a few radioisotope rockets have been produced.
